This site is run by Konrad Michels (Tonal Photo), based in Virginia, USA. This page describes what data the site collects, which third-party services are involved, and how to reach me about any of it. The short version: no ad networks, no cross-site tracking, and I never sell or share reader data.

Reading the blog

You can read everything on this site without an account. Two analytics tools run on every page:

  • Ghost analytics. The blog runs on Ghost(Pro), and Ghost's built-in, first-party analytics records aggregate traffic (pageviews, referrers, country, device type). It does not use cookies and does not build visitor profiles.
  • Ahrefs Web Analytics. Used for SEO measurement (which pages get found in search). Ahrefs states it is cookieless and does not track individuals across sites.

I see aggregate numbers in both tools, not individual browsing histories.

Members and the newsletter

If you subscribe to The Hasselblad Companion or create a member account, Ghost stores your email address and name (if you give one), and tracks newsletter delivery, opens, and clicks so I can tell what readers find useful. Emails are sent through Ghost's delivery infrastructure (Mailgun).

Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops the emails immediately; if you want your member record deleted entirely, email me (address below) and I'll remove it.

Signing in as a member sets a session cookie. That is the only cookie this site sets itself.

Paid tiers are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch this site's servers; I see your email, tier, and payment status, not your card number. Stripe's script loads on the site and sets its own cookies for fraud prevention. Stripe's handling of your data is covered by their privacy policy.

Comments

Commenting uses Ghost's native comments and requires a member account. Your comment and member name are visible to other readers. You can ask me to delete any comment you've posted.

Contact form

The contact form is handled by Formspree, which forwards your message and email address to me. Formspree processes that submission under its own privacy policy. If you'd rather skip the middleman, email me directly.

Purchases of guides and other products

The Phocus guide and other digital products are sold through Payhip. The checkout happens on payhip.com under Payhip's privacy policy; I receive your email address and order details for fulfillment and support.

Embedded content and CDNs

Pages load images from Ghost's image CDN (storage.ghost.io), video from this site's own media host (media.tonalphoto.com, served via Cloudflare), and Ghost's member-portal and search scripts from jsDelivr. Like any web host, these services see your IP address when your browser requests a file. None of them are used to track you.

Sponsor banners and affiliate links on this site are plain links, sometimes with tracking parameters in the URL so the partner can tell the visit came from here. No sponsor scripts run on this site. Once you leave for an external site, its privacy policy applies.

Your data

Email me at info@tonalphoto.com to ask what data exists about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. Member and newsletter data lives in Ghost; deleting your member record removes it there.

Changes

If the tooling on this site changes in a way that affects what's collected, this page gets updated and the effective date above moves. No silent changes.
